North Carolina is currently experiencing a blood supply shortage, with organizations like the American Red Cross and The Blood Connection citing low donor turnout and increased demand as primary causes. This shortage has been exacerbated by recent weather events like Hurricanes Helene and Debby, which caused a loss of stored blood and a reduction in donation drives. To address this, health leaders and officials are urging eligible individuals to donate blood to help meet the critical need.
